From Kyoto Kangetsukyo to Miyazu-shi 150km, 京都観月橋から宮津市まで150km、从京都观月桥到宮津市150公里

This is the route we took. From Kyoto Fushimi-ku to Miyazu-shi near the sea, north of Kyoto. It is about 150km in total and we took a gruesome 12 hours to complete it. My legs turned jelly, my ass hurts and my back is burned by the sun.

This is the Cannondale bike I rented near Kyoto Station. The rent is 2000yen per day, as I will be taking it for 3 days for the company overnight trip, I paid 6000yen. It may be considered reasonable given such a nice bike. The tires are 2.3 inch wide, a bit too much for road ride and the frame is a little too big for me. Anyway, compared to the folding bike I have been using to travel to work, it is indeed a very nice and comfortable bike.
The first stop was at this convenient store. In Japan, convenient stores are everywhere in Japan and it seems that no one can live without it. Here you can see my 70L Deuter backpack and a vending machine selling cigarettes. In Japan, it is only allowed to drink and smoke when you are 20 or above, this vending machine can actually scan your ID to find out your age before dispensing. But what if you take someone else's ID to scan?
My colleague, Tatsuta-san. 29 years old, father of two.
So the three of us met up at the convenient store, took a group photo before our KAMIKAZE journey begins.

My transition lens at work, lowering the level of UV rays into my eyes.

On the way, we found a small goat farm.

Another break in front of another convenient store.

Convenient stores and vending machines are the "gas stations" to us for us to refuel.
This may look like a very relax posture, actually after 80km, you have no idea how painful our legs were and how soar our asses got.
As we went further and further, the joy of cycling rapidly became a torture. Hence, I had missed out many photo opportunities. We just wanted to get there and end our Kamikaze trip. Here is the destination, a chalet up on the mountain at Miyazu City, facing the Japan Sea.
These photos were actually taken the next day when I had recovered partly from the ride. We reached our destination around 6pm when it was already getting dark. The rest of the company cheered upon our arrival, tossing us with beer and bringing us with BBQ food. It made us look like we were really heroes of Kamikaze.
